The Lake Zoar Authority is a multi-town organization consisting of representatives from the four towns that border the lake - Monroe, Newtown, Oxford, and Southbury. The Lake Zoar Authority is tasked with the goals of improving water quality and promoting safe boating on the lake.

The regular meeting of the Lake Zoar Authority was held Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at the Oxford Town Hall, 486 Oxford Road, Oxford, CT 06478

Gary Fillion, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm.

 

Secretary’s Report:

A motion to accept the minutes as read from the March 5, 2019 meeting was made by Frank Cavallo, seconded by John Downs; the motion was passed unanimously.

 

Public Comments:

6 Monroe residents attended the meeting. Concerns were raised regarding boat wakes in the area of Eichler’s Cove along with the possibility of expanding the chemical weed treatment into the same area. Residents also asked about the possibility of placing “No Wake” buoys at the entrance of the marina and in front of their properties. Large wakes from careless boaters have been reported as regular occurrences in this area of the lake. A complaint about the lake water being green from algae growth was also raised. Public comments also encouraged our improvement of the LZA website.

 

Correspondence and News Clippings:

The March 2019 Candlewood Lake Authority meeting minutes were distributed.

                               

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Mouchantat, Treasurer, presented account balances. A motion to accept the Treasures Report was made by Ed Kusinski, seconded by Frank Cavallo; the motion was passed unanimously.

                                                                                                                                             

Marine Patrol Report:

None – there were no patrols during the past month.

 

Publicity/ Public Awareness:

Ed Kusinski, Vice Chairman, informed everyone the new LZA website has been successfully switched to a new service provider. Gary Fillion, Chairman, requested all Commissioners to visit the site and provide feedback regarding content and structure so improvements can be made. Public guests were also encouraged to view the website and provide the LZA with their feedback.

 

Water Quality:

Gary Fillion, Chairman, indicated we are still waiting for the Post Treatment Result Survey from the chemical weed treatment applied in 2018.

 

 

Boats and Motors Report:

None – Boats are stored for the winter

 

Coast Guard Auxiliary Report:

No report was available.

 

Grants:

Gary Fillion, Chairman, confirmed a grant application for $15,000.00 was submitted to First Light.

 

Unfinished Business:

None

 

New Business

Gary Fillion, Chairman, suggested 500 Lake Zoar maps be printed up for distribution to the public.

 

Adjournment

A motion to adjourn was made by Frank Cavallo, seconded by Ed Kusinski; the motion was passed unanimously. Gary Fillion, Chairman, adjourned the meeting at 7:53 pm
