The Lake Zoar Authority is a multi-town organization consisting of representatives from the four towns that border the lake - Monroe, Newtown, Oxford, and Southbury. The Lake Zoar Authority is tasked with the goals of improving water quality and promoting safe boating on the lake.

The regular meeting of the Lake Zoar Authority was held Tuesday January 7, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. at the Southbury Town Hall.

Absent:

Gary Fillion, chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

 

Secretary’s Report:

A motion to accept the minutes as read from the December 3, 2019 meeting was made by Bill May, seconded by Dick Speer; the motion was passed unanimously.

 

Public Comments:

None

 

Correspondence and News Clippings:

Candlewood Lake Authority minutes were made available for review.

                       

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Mouchantat, Treasurer, presented account balances. A motion to accept the Treasurers Report was made by Dick Speer, seconded by Bill May; the motion was passed unanimously

                                                                                                          

Marine Patrol Report:

No report.

 

Publicity/ Public Awareness:

Lesley Pires advised website has been updated with additional information.  The Facebook page is also current.  All commissioners are encouraged to solicit information/content.

 

Water Quality / Grants Report:

Gary Fillion advised the Annual Shoreline Management Plan meeting is scheduled for February; Gary will attending and possibly others. First Light has issued a Zebra Mussels report as well as invasive species.

 

Boats and Motors Report:

Dick Speer reported boats are stored for winter.

 

Coast Guard Auxiliary Report:

None.

 

Grants:

There may be some state grant monies available – Dick Speers and Gary Fillion to investigate.

 

Unfinished Business:

Election of officers was done for the 3 expiring positions:

  • Bob Mouchantat nominated Gary Fillion for Chairman; seconded by Bill May, elected unanimously
  • Gary Fillion nominated Bob Mouchantat for Treasurer; seconded by John Downs, elected unanimously
  • Bill May nominated Leslie Pires for Secretary; seconded by Bill May, elected unanimously
  • Ed Kusinski continues as vice-chairman (term expires January 2021

 

New Business

The commission adjourned into Executive Session at 8:40 to discuss management of the lake patrol and returned to meeting at 8:50.

 

 

Adjournment

A motion to adjourn was made by Dick Speer, seconded by Herbert Garber, the motion was passed unanimously. Gary Fillion adjourned the meeting at 7:57 pm
