WINTER WARNING

Treacherous conditions are present when the surface water of Lake Zoar freezes. Please take caution and stay off the ice. The thickness of the ice changes daily due to weather conditions. Ice does not freeze uniformly, and over time the underside begins to melt in patches. The US Coast Guard reports that death can occur between 3 and 30 minutes after immersion in cold water. Please read the USCG Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Program’s fact sheet on Cold Water Survival & Hypothermia for more information.
