The Lake Zoar Authority is a multi-town organization consisting of representatives from the four towns that border the lake - Monroe, Newtown, Oxford, and Southbury. The Lake Zoar Authority is tasked with the goals of improving water quality and promoting safe boating on the lake.

2021 Draw Down

The 2021 Draw Down and annual Marine Patrol survey cruise has been completed. The lake is now at normal operating levels.


All homeowners are encouraged to remove structures, boatlifts, and docks from Lake Zoar to prevent ice or flood damage from occurring during the winter months.

First Light Announcement 9/17/21:

“Beginning on October 15, 2021 FirstLight will conduct a fall drawdown of Lake Zoar at the Stevenson Dam to conduct its maintenance and inspection activities. The normal summer operating range of the station is from 103’-100’ and the drawdown will target an elevation of 98.5’. The drawdown will lower lake levels to minimum pond levels and return to normal operating elevations on October 27, 2021. All homeowners are encouraged to remove structures, boatlifts, and docks from Lake Zoar to prevent ice or flood damage from occurring during the winter months. All work planned to occur along the shoreline requires prior permitting from FirstLight, who can be contacted at lake.permits@firstlightpower.com.”

This announcement was posted on the FirstLight website, local newspapers, in the LZA October Minutes posted on all member town websites, and on the official LZA Facebook page in October. This website was under construction and unavailable for update at that time.
