The top end of Lake Zoar, just below the Shepaug Dam, is a dangerous restricted area with strong and unpredictable currents due to the hydroelectric operations. Our patrol boats regularly find boaters in this area that have missed or ignored the large sign warning of the dangers and marking the point where the restricted area begins.
We are excited to announce that a series of bouys are now in place to more clearly mark this restricted area and help prevent any further unnecessary violations.
Please respect this boundary and stay safe out there.
