The Lake Zoar Authority is a multi-town organization consisting of representatives from the four towns that border the lake - Monroe, Newtown, Oxford, and Southbury. The Lake Zoar Authority is tasked with the goals of improving water quality and promoting safe boating on the lake.

The regular meeting of the Lake Zoar Authority was to be held on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 7:00 pm at the Newtown Community Center, 8 Simpson St, Newtown, CT 06470.

Chairman Gary Fillion called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm with 4 of the 10 members present. Due to lack of quorum, an official meeting could not be held. No business was conducted. Per request, members of the public were allowed to speak, and commissioners shared information as follows:

 

 

A resident commented about swans on the lake. The LZA will forward the information to the CT DEEP.

 

Bill May, Treasurer, share that cash on hand totaled $105,332.52 with total balances equal to $184,464.62.

 

Dan Semosky, Marine Patrol Coordinator shared that there are still frequent PFD violations on the lake. He shared that the no wake zone near the construction area is being adhered to by some drivers but not all.

 

Chairman Gary Fillion shared that the first annual weed treatment was rescheduled for July 15, 2021, with a rain date of July 16, 2021. There is a pre-treatment survey of the weeds being conducted. There is also a new invasive species of crab that has been reported in the lake.

 

Chairman Gary Fillion dismissed the group at 7:50pm.
